Wine Tasting: A Date Night in Arizona

Looking for a little romance while living or visiting Arizona this Valentine’s Day? Check out The Windmill Winery in Florence, Arizona, between Phoenix and Tucson. This venue for weddings is also a local winery, with wine tasting availability Thursday through Sunday. They host special events throughout the year with live music and entertainment, plus food trucks. The drive may be a little lack-luster, but it is truly a diamond in the rough!

Have a sip of their 12 locally produced wines on the eclectic outdoor patio area. Fun seating, gorgeous, rustic scenery, and plenty of heat lamps and fire pits will give you the romantic wine tasting escape you’re looking for on (or around) Valentine’s day. My husband and I recently did a little wine tasting and date night over at The Windmill Winery, which is also where we were married about 3 years ago. It’s such a refreshingly different environment from the desert landscaping we are used to, living in Phoenix, and it’s only about an hour and a half drive.

You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a chic farm once you’re on the property and have experienced the elegant charm of the wine tasting room. We went on a Saturday night for drinks and live music. It was a fun crowd and there was plenty of seating. There was also a food truck serving barbecue, but it varies based on the day. Regardless, the pulled pork sandwich from When Pigs Fly, OTG was delicious.

We stayed for a few hours drinking one of their signature Pinot Grigio wines, yum, and listening to live, acoustic cover songs on the outdoor patio area. Afterward we headed to our hotel room at the Green Tree Inn and Suites just down the road. If you’re there while a wedding is going on, you can take advantage of shuttle service to and from the winery from the hotel.

The rooms at the hotel are great. Spacious, clean and they have jetted tub rooms available (wink, wink). It was very relaxing, convenient, and reasonably priced! They also a continental breakfast until 10am. We had the best time just getting away for a night and we highly recommend visiting to our family and friends already. It won’t be OUR last time there.
