As said in previous weeks, early exposure to academics can help children perform better and feel more confident when they enter kindergarten. To help get your child ready (and my own) I have created some simple resources to supplement your toddler’s preschool learning. Whether it is incorporated into your curriculum, used as an introduction, or just for fun, these resources will help you and your child develop a love of learning. This week’s focus is: Letter C, Number 3, Square, Blue

Main Concepts Printable Packet
Print, cut, and staple/glue. (If your child is able, have them help.) Then, have them color or dot paint while discussing each preschool concept. Currently, we are working toward tracing the letters/shape and using dots to count on the number. You can do this all in one lesson or have your toddler do one page each day for each concept. *Print on cardstock to create flashcards for later!*
Preschool Learning Activities
Letter Search: Find the C
Use a puzzle, alphabet chart, or anything with words including the letter C and model pointing it out. Then help your child also point out the letter C. If they are picking it up quickly, have them do some on their own or find letter Cs around the house.

Count to: 3 Printable Craft & Review
Use this Bushel of Apples Printable Craft to review previous concepts and learn to count to three! Start with coloring the images. Then, practice counting 1, 2, 3 apples. Cut the apples out and glue them on top of the square crate. Teach your toddler that unlike a circle or triangle (sun shapes) the square has 4 sides.
There are several C words in the directions on the printable to use for identification, plus As and Bs from previous lessons for review. If they are picking it up quickly, have them do some on their own of find items of only two around the house.

Identify then Build: Square & Triangle Review
Start with a little shape identification activity with the square sheet from your weekly concept packet and a small post-it. Talk about the 4 sides of the shape and how they are all the same length like the post-it. Have your toddler place the post-it inside of the square on the sheet. This also helps with developing spatial awareness!
Next, review triangles and squares with some magnetic tiles (find here). They can build a house, castle, boat, or build and compare different sized squares/triangles. Explain that the shapes they have learned so far are used a lot to make other shapes and structures.

Color Identification: Blue
Similar to the letter activity, use a seek and find type book (or any picture book) to point out blue objects. Model until your child seems to be picking it up and have them continue on their own. They can then move on to find blue objects around the house to make it more challenging. You can also combine this with the activities from the other weekly concepts above!
