We are headed into Spooky Season, but that doesn’t mean kids stop learning! Early exposure to academics can help children perform better and feel more confident when they enter kindergarten, which is why preschool is so important. I have created some simple Halloween themed resources to supplement your (and my own) toddler’s preschool learning. Whether it is incorporated into your curriculum, used as an introduction, or just for fun, these resources will help you and your child develop a love of learning. This week’s focus is: Letter F, Number 6, Lines, Purple

Main Concepts Printable Packet
Print, cut, and staple/glue. (If your child is able, have them help.) Then, have them color or dot paint while discussing each preschool concept. Currently, we are working toward tracing the letters/shape and using dots to count on the number. You can do this all in one lesson or have your toddler do one page each day for each concept. *Print on cardstock to create flashcards for later!*
Halloween Preschool Learning Activities
Letter Search: Find the F
Use a puzzle, alphabet chart, or anything with words including the letter F and model pointing it out. Then help your child also point out the letter F. If they are picking it up quickly, have them do some on their own or find letter Fs around the house.

Connect the Dots and Count to: 6
Use the “Connect the Dots” Halloween preschool printable to draw lines between six different points, counting as you go. Emphasize they’re creating straight lines by connecting the points to make the witch’s broom. Then, follow up with counting and coloring the six stars and pumpkins on the printable.
For additional practice, use toys or blocks. Set out six of each toy or block and model counting to six. Then help your child also count out six as they move or touch the toy. If they are picking it up quickly, have them do some on their own of find items of only six around the house.

Trace the Shape: Lines
For this preschool activity we used Halloween themed cookie cutters and magnetic tile to create curved and straight lines. After showing the different example from the main concept cards, use the cookie cutters to reiterate the difference between curved and straight. Lines connect to make shapes. It’s a great review for previous shapes too! Ask what shapes they’ve learned about already that have curved lines and which have straight lines. After discussing, use a crayon, pencil, dot paint, etc. to trace around the cookie cutter and magnetic tile edges to make curved and straight lines. Model first, then have them try on their own. To make it more challenging, ask them to make a curved or straight line and choose which cookie cutter or magnetic tile to use.

Color Combine Magnetic Tiles: Purple
Start with a little color identification by coloring the main concept card splatter purple. Talk about the two primary colors (red and blue) that mix or combine to make purple. I used our red and blue magnetic tiles to show the combination by placing a blue tile over a red tile. The blue tile changes to a light shade of purple. If you don’t have magnetic tiles that work for this, you can combine paint colors for the same effect.
For additional practice, use a seek and find type book (or any picture book) to point out purple objects. Model until your child seems to be picking it up and have them continue on their own. They can then move on to find purple objects around the house to make it more challenging. You can also combine this concept with the activities from the other weekly concepts above!
