The Easter Bunny is on their way and we are ready! I decided to utilize some household and recyclable items to create a fun and whimsical tea party set for my toddler to enjoy with her Easter Bunny pals. Continue on for some quick tutorials and inspiration for creating your own Easter Tea Party Pretend Play!
In my opinion every kiddo should grow up with some kind of tea set. I actually didn’t get a nice one until I was in 6th grade and it was a gift from my dad for Christmas; he’s a sweetheart. Even though I was well over the typical tea party age, I was excited to finally have one of my own. I still love it and have it to this day. It’s always been a special set and I hope to use it with my daughter when she is a little older and more responsible with her toys. For now, we are going to play with these easy DIY tea party ideas that are easy to make and inexpensive!
Paper Doily Table Runner
They are so many easy table runner options with paper doilies! Last year, I created a few patterns for my Granny’s Memorial and they turned out super pretty. Take a look at my blog post for all the details, Paper Doily Table Runner Ideas, and feel free to just be creative with it! I personally liked the rounds for our tea party set up because they fit the best on my daughter’s little square table.
Cardboard Tea Set
I am a huge fan of creating with cardboard since we tend to accumulate a lot of Amazon boxes, LOL. I mean, who doesn’t? So I found this was going to be the easiest way to make our tea party cups and plates. Here’s what you’ll need:
- cardboard
- scissors
- hot glue
- paper doilies (optional)
- paint and brushes (optional)
- The Plates
- Start by using something circular to trace a perfect circle in the size of plate that you want. I used a small dessert plate and large mug.
- Next, cut out the circles. one larger and one smaller size for each pretend guest.
- Add paint and/or paper doilies to make them more “fancy.”
- The Cups
- Start with the same larger circle shape as you use for the large plate; trace and cut one for each tea cup.
- Next, cut slits into the cardboard circle toward the middle but not all the way through, leaving some attached spaced. It should look similar to a sunflower.
- Fold the slits upward toward the center and it will almost look like a rose budding. Hot glue to edges where they touch to form the shape of the cup.
- Then, cut out a smaller circle for the base of the cup and hot glue.
- Lastly, cut out an appropriately sized U-shape cardboard and hot glue to the side of the cup for a handle. Don’t forget to teach your kiddo “pinkies out! “
Recycled
Hear me out, recycled egg carton salt and pepper shakers. These are super easy and cute! Simply cut out two of the egg holes(?) and hot glue the tops together to make a cylinder type shape. Use a sharpie to add the ‘S’ and ‘P’ to complete your cardboard tea set.
In our house we collect everything! We have lots of those packaged plastic utensils from ordering take-out. These make easy and recycled pretend play utensils. Wrap them up in a scrap piece of fabric or doily with some twine and your ready to TEA PARTY!
The Set Up
To finalize your Easter Tea Party Pretend Play, you’ll need to set everything up. I am not an expert so I just went with what I had made and set it up like this.
We have 4 seats around the table. The table runner went down first. Then we stacked the smaller plate on top of the larger plate, followed by the tea cup. We placed the wrapped utensils on one side of the plates/cup for each guest. The salt and pepper go in the center with some inexpensive centerpiece décor from Target’s Dollar Spot!
This tea party project was so fun to make and play with my daughter. It’s the prefect addition to our Easter prep activities, but we will probably pretend play with it all year round. Hope you enjoy creating memories like these with your little ones too!
