The BEST part of DIY décor is that you can get what you want ON A BUDGET. Easy, inexpensive, AND customizable; it’s what I’m all about. I don’t have the money to buy tons of stuff for myself; I have baby food and diapers to pay for! So for this winter craft, I am keeping the theme of my last few on the blog, but focusing on keeping the cost down. I am going to give you a couple of minimalist options for your trees that can be accomplished with only materials from Dollar Tree and then some *totally optional* ideas to add more detail if that is your thing. It’s definitely MY thing. Now let’s keep the season going with this simple and customizable DIY Winter Tree craft!

What You’ll Need from Dollar Tree:
- Styrofoam cones
- jute- green and/or brown
- mini plant pots
- wired garland ties
- white and gray paint, paint brush(es)
- hot glue gun and scissors
- *OPTIONAL (from Amazon)*
Wrap the Tree
- First drop a small amount of hot glue on the top to hold your jute in place. It may melt the Styrofoam so don’t overdo it. (I know from experience!)
- Next us another small amount of hot glue to hold the jute down to one side. After it dries start wrapping all the way down the cone. This took me about 5-7 minutes for the whole tree.
- Then treat the top as a lid, a separate piece. Add more hot glue all over the top and edges now that the rest is covered. CARFEULLY (it’s very hot) swirl the jute into itself as shown.
Get Out the Paint
- Paint over the mini plant pot with white; only one coat was needed.
- Then splatter paint onto jute wrapped Styrofoam for snow effect. I found this turned out the best when I loaded up the paintbrush with paint and tapped it with scissors over the tree as shown.
- Use one garland tree tie and roughly paint over it with white for snowy effect.
Paint Wrap Tap
- Assemble as shown:
- hot glue into the mini plant pot
- hot glue the garland tree tie around the base
*OPTIONAL DETAILS*
- If you are tying this cute DIY tree craft into your existing winter décor from before, you can hot glue those same wooden ornaments and bells like I did so it looks like a matching set! 🙂
Voila! Your DIY Winter Tree Craft on a budget has finished off your collection. May your porch, or mantle, or wherever you place them, look wintery AF. LOL.
