Another DIY craft? YES. I’m super excited about this one because if you read my other blog From House to Home (Décor from the Heart) you’d know that my little family purchased a new tree this year; a BIG one. It is decorated in a classic red, white and green ornaments PLUS this real pretty “teal” burlap ribbon. So what does this have to do with garland, hmm? Well, I was wanting to match my new tree since my banister is in the same room; really tie everything together. I doubt they are selling anything already done that would go better than just putting something together myself with the same ribbon as what is on my tree. I am very satisfied with how it turned out and how cohesive the whole space looks! So let’s get this DIY started so YOU can have THE PERFECT Holiday Garland to match YOUR home décor. 🙂
What You’ll Need
- Tree garland (Dollar Tree)
- Burlap ribbon (Amazon)
- Two different holiday ribbons (Dollar Tree)
- Beaded necklaces (Dollar Tree)
- Scissors
- Floral wire
How To
- First you will want to measure out your banister to see how much tree garland you will need to cover your desired area.
- Next lay out your tree garland as straight as possible.
- Unroll your burlap ribbon next to the FULL LENGTH of the tree garland PLUS HALF.
- You should have 1.5 times MORE burlap ribbon than tree garland.
- Match up one end of the tree garland with the burlap ribbon.
- WRAP and TWIST the tree garland around the burlap ribbon.
- The wire in the garland should secure the burlap ribbon in place.
- Make loose loops with the burlap ribbon and attach to the tree garland about every 6 inches.
- Remember to TWIST the tree garland around the burlap ribbon to secure it.
- Count the number knots made by connecting the tree garland and burlap ribbon then divide that number in half.
- Make that number of about 16inch sections of your main holiday ribbon.
- So this ribbon will be used at every other knot.
- With these sections, you will make a traditional bow.
- Fold the ribbon over itself, pull the top of the loop to center and pinch.
- Secure the bow together and into the knot of the garland using floral wire.
- Repeat the same bow making process with the secondary holiday ribbon.
- I used stockings in between so I used even less of the secondary ribbon, but feel free to fill in the gaps throughout the whole thing.
- Lastly secure the beaded necklace with floral wire across the length of the garland to add a pop and shine to the craft.
- They remind me of holiday berries 🙂
All Tied Together With Ribbons & Bows
