Tis the the season for holiday DIY crafts! I love this time of `year for so many reasons, but one of the main reasons is because I get to pull out my stash of pretty ribbons and go ALL OUT FESTIVE! Christmas is the only time it’s totally appropriate to go big or go home on the crafts and dΓ©cor, am I right? Today, I will be showing you how I turned these sweet little silver trays from Dollar Tree into the perfect accent to add a little shine to your holiday spread! Have all the fun!
Now, I am not a professional crafter by any means. I just love doing it as a hobby. Having said that, I don’t really “plan” out what I am going to do. I usually grab all of the craft supplies from the closet I’ve been hoarding them in and just lay it all out on a table or the floor. I try to have a vague idea of where I am going with it and put things together as I go while looking through the materials I have collected. So get creative and just let your imagination take control! The essentials you will need for these DIY crafts are:
- a tray(s)
- holiday ribbon
- scrapbooking accents and/or small ornaments
- scissors
- hot glue
These rectangle-shaped present trays are super simple. I added them to my hallway table to fill in the background of the Christmas knick-knacks and make my display look more full. I used the classic red and green to match my theme but you can use whatever matches yours!
The Ribbon
- Hot glue one end of the ribbon to the back of the tray
- Wrap the ribbon vertically around the tray
- WITHOUT CUTTING, glue the ribbon at the desired placement of your horizontal
- I chose an off center look
- Once glue is dry, twist the ribbon and wrap around the tray horizontally
- Glue the end of the ribbon to the center of the cross and cut
Olivia’s Romantic Home
The Olivia Bow
- Take your first festive ribbon and wrap around your hand 6-7 times to create 3 loops
- I made about 4 inch loops for the bottom layer
- Fold the loops in half to find the center
- Cut through the wire on both sides of the center to create a better hold for the pipe cleaner
- Wrap a pipe cleaner around the center to create 6 individual loops
- Fluff loops into round bow
- Repeat with your second ribbon
- I made about 3 inch loops for the top layer
- Add an accent like the snowflake to the center if you wish
- Finish by hot gluing the bow to the front of the tray and adding a Christmas tag
I hope you enjoyed learning how to make these easy DIY Christmas tray crafts! I would love to hear the spin you take on this project so leave me some more ideas in the comments! π
