Do you ever just want a minute to think about something other than the daily mom grind? As a new toddler mom, I have a hard time finding time for myself. The things I used to do for fun now sound daunting. I was looking for something easy to take my mind off the never ending list of to-dos that usually occupies any free brain waves and I found it! It’s a website that offers tons of free online games to give your mom brain a break and use it for fun! I’m excited to share this collaboration with you all and some of my favorite online games.
The Basics
On the main page, solitaire.org, you’ll be able to easily find and navigate not only the various themed solitaire games, but also the other online game options. As you scroll down you’ll find a ton of information for if you’re new to Solitaire, just need a refresher, or want to expand your knowledge. Here are just a few areas it covers:
- History
- How to Play
- Strategy
- Scoring
- FAQs
Scroll on even more to find a HUMONGOUS list of different versions and themes of Solitaire, plus all of the other games they offer such as card games, Mahjong, hidden object games, matching games, logic puzzles, and word games. Again, you can more easily navigate between these at the top of the page. Needless to say I’m not going to played out of this site anytime soon. There is so much to explore and play!
Cup of Tea Timed Solitaire
The Cup of Tea Timed Solitaire under the Klondike Solitaire Version is my favorite so far for three reasons; the relaxing visuals of tea, the smooth jazzy music, and the time challenge! Most days I like a little bit of a fun mental challenge and the element of time decreasing for each level is right up my alley. Combined with the visuals and music, it feels like I am out at a chill tea spot and it is VERY calming. With so many themes to choose from I never have a problem finding something that fits and lifts my mood.
Solitaire is usually my go-to because I find it nostalgic from my childhood. My parents always gifted the digital pocket ones to us and it was just a fun way to hang out together. Plus with these, I can squeeze in some online games super quick when I have a free minute throughout the day. I also have a few favorites from the other categories.
Euchre Card Game
This is another one that means a lot to me and uses strategy! My grandparents in the Midwest taught me how to play Euchre when I’d visit every summer. It’s not common where I am from in Arizona so I was happy to see that I can keep their memories alive with this online version!
It is played in teams so there are always 3 other computer players, one being your teammate. The fun part is that you don’t know what cards your teammate has so there is a lot of deliberation when deciding which cards your going to play. Plus, each round is a surprise because the TRUMP suit is decided before the start of each one. If you’ve never played before you’ll have to scroll down on the site to all of the rules and vocabulary under the game screen. It’s really a fun one if you are more competitive and like to think strategy.
Battleships Armada Logic Puzzle
Do you remember how fun it was to say that phrase, “You sunk my battleship!” Well, it’s even more fun online! Who knew? As you can see my favorites all come from nostalgia. This Battleships Armada childhood gem is great for relieving some aggression. It’s really easy to manipulate the ships and squares using a mouse or touch screen. I love how the missiles fly up from the bottom to the targeted square and play sound effects. So interactive! It really gets me excited to win. There are three levels: easy, normal, and hard, but easy is good for me… for now. I think this one would even be fun to play with the kiddos for a double dipped brain break.
Letter Scramble Word Game
The last of the online games that I have enjoyed on this site is the Letter Scramble word game. It’s kind of like a combination of Scrabble and Boggle. I know word games are trending right now and this one fits right in. There is a time element, word count element, and point element that makes it challenging but fun. I surprised myself with how big my vocabulary is; words I NEVER use started to pop into my head. This game is a fun way to jog that part of your brain. You can compete with yourself and other scorers on the leaderboard, or maybe even challenge your partner to a word battle to see who can get the most points! I am warning you, it’s kind of addictive.
All of these online games and more are perfect for the busy mom like me! They are quick and available any time of day. You have the ability to pause when you need to, turn the music on and off, save your scores and just take a little time for yourself. I found them to very mentally stimulated and way more fun than mindlessly scrolling through my social media. So if your in the mood for a little brain break, check out Solitaire.org and bookmark it for naptime!
