Brand new, first time mom here! My little one is 9 months old and I cannot believe how fast time has flown. My daughter went from a sweet, little plop to a mobile Curious Georgina in a minute. Whether you’re just pregnant, a new mom like me, or have a few kiddos under your belt, WE ALL HAVE ONE THING IN COMMON; WE WORRY. So even though it’s been crazy fun and I am loving every minute of it, I can’t say that it would have been so easy without discovering this baby gear for sleep.
Check out some of my favorite baby products for sleep that saved me during my first months into motherhood.

Why For Sleep?
Sleep time was my BIGGEST worry as a new mom. My husband is a professional childproofer and owns a childproofing company. We would teach Safe Sleep classes to new moms for his business and I soaked it up! Don’t know about Safe Sleep practices? Check out my blog post for the basics and how to create a safe sleep nursery.
After learning about all of the potential hazards and risks for SIDS, I was paranoid about sleep safety with my new baby to say the least. I’m not going to lie. It is SO HARD to practice all of it, but we do our best! Ideally, we should stay awake when our baby sleeps and just watch them without blinking, but yeah, not possible. We’re also told to “sleep when baby sleeps,” which can be a challenge. So here is some baby gear for sleep that made it a little bit easier for my exhausted a** to keep my baby safe and get a little rest myself.
My Favorite Baby Gear for Sleep
With all of the knowledge about SIDS and safe sleep practices out there, we took it pretty seriously when choosing a bassinet. We found this style on Amazon while putting together our registry and it has worked out FANTASTIC for us. It is light-weight, easy to pack up move from place to place, and is made of of mostly MESH! Why is mesh so great? Well it’s breathable. One of the risks of SIDS is complications with breathing and airflow. We wanted our baby’s sleep area to have much airflow as possible to reduce any risks.
Another worry I had at first was keeping my baby’s body temperature out of the danger zone; both too cold or too hot. I think being too hot is more scary, though. We keep our house pretty cold, so of course, I initially wanted to cover her with one of her cute, soft baby blankets, but then I remembered that it’s not always safe when sleeping. There is a huge risk if your baby pulls the blanket over their head and blocks airflow. Instead of using a blanket I kept her in the warm, fuzzy long john onesies like these ALL THROUGH SUMMER: no shame here.
Make It Easy On Yourself
Sometimes just the convenience of a product is enough to save you in motherhood. We love this nightlight/ sound machine combo. It’s seriously the easiest thing to use. It connects to an app on your phone, you can change the light and sounds through the app or just by a light touch on rim. No joke, I use my toe to turn it on and off when because I am either carrying a sleeping baby to her crib at night or carrying a wiggle baby out of her nursery in the morning. It creates the perfect amount of light and has volume control. Very high quality for the price!
Alright, I have to say that these are NOT FOR SLEEPING. It says so right on the long warning tag attached to each pillow. I will also say that you will be tempted to let your child sleep on them because they are so comfortable for babies. Try to resist that urge in the name of child safety. These were very helpful when our bodies were too tired or uncomfortable to hold our baby alone. It happens.
I had a C-Section and my mid-section was very tender for a long time. These pillows made it a lot easier to be with my baby without the strain. When using these, your baby should ALWAYS BE SUPERVISED because if they roll over they could get in a dangerous position and suffocate OR they could roll off and get hurt. Again, these are not a substitute for a proper bassinet or crib. READ ALL LABELS.
Be Extra!
Lastly, this impulsive buy ended up being an essential for us even now at 9 months. One night our little fussy babe was just inconsolable. We tried EVERYTHING; feeding, changing, burping, holding, singing, walking around. Nothing was working so we caved and bought some new baby gear to help her sleep; NOT ALONE. This swing is another product to be used with supervision and is not a substitute for a crib or bassinet. She fell into the deepest sleep rocking back and forth, so deep that I was checking her breathing every five minutes. Yes, I’m that helicopter mom. She was totally fine, just super comfortable. It ended up being our go-to for longer nap times (my daughter only likes micro-naps) and we still use it now when we need a break. It is definitely worth the investment.
Best For Your Family
When it comes down to it, you have to decide what is best for your family, but these are all great products that have worked for mine and that I stand by. So give them a try and you can always return them if they don’t work for you. Personally, we will be using them for our next baby too.
My first months as a new mom were such a wonderful experience in part because of this baby gear for sleep. So enjoy! More baby gear favorites to come on the blog soon!
