DIY Welcome Winter Door Hanger

The holidays are over but winter has just begun! (on December 21st to be exact)… Who says you have to stop crafting? NOT ME! I love to craft. It’s like an escape and with my new baby girl growing and becoming more curious everyday, my love and abilities are only going to increase! Let’s start the season with this simple and customizable DIY “Welcome Winter” door hanger craft!

What You’ll Need:

Unfinished Wood Hanging Sign Blank (*** see caption below)
Unfinished Wood Christmas Ornaments – Mini
two types of silver ribbon
white and dark gray paint
black, silver, and white Porcelain Paint Markers
Dollar Tree wired garland ties
paint brush(es)
hot glue gun
scissors
sand paper/ sanding block

*******This 3 tier sign was **much smaller than advertised**. It is the perfect for a small door hanger as pictured by me, but not shown as this size or given the right measurements in the product description.

The Door Hanger

Adjust your boards to be evenly spaced. Leave enough room at the top to fit over a door handle.
Plan out your placement of mini winter decorations.
Then hot glue decoration in place on hanging sign.

Paint over mini winter decorations with dark gray paint. This will show through next layer of whit paint and add dimension.
Then paint roughly over edges where you will be sanding over (optional) to give your sign a rustic, farmhouse look.

Paint over entire sign and mini winter decorations with white paint. One rough coat.
Then lightly sand over mini winter decorations and edges to show some of the gray paint layer.

Use white paint marker to write out (or stencil) a rough outline for your words. If you make a mistake it will be easy to paint over.
Trace over desired wording with a black paint marker.
Then add depth with a silver paint marker on the left-side edges.
- CAN BE DONE WITH CRICUT VINYL if you don’t want to write, stencil, paint.

Fun Fact: Phoenix is at a cool 65 degrees Fahrenheit this “winter” 🙂

Fold Dollar Tree garland tie in half and cut. It will be just the right size for the top tier of your sign.
Lightly paint over the garland with white paint to give it that snowed on effect.
Then glue the garland to the very top of your top tier.

The Bow

Take the larger ribbon of your choice a create a loop.
Then hot glue the center. Be careful to not burn yourself!
Flip loop inside-out and bring down to center. Then hot glue it on top. Repeat steps with second smaller ribbon of choice.
Hot glue mini winter decoration for center of bow.
Then use miniature decoration (or scrap cardstock) to glue base of bow to the center of jute handle. This makes the bow more secure on the just that will be hanging on your door handle.
