When I started my blog back in September of 2020 for fun, I had no idea I would eventually be using it to MAKE MONEY. Through SEO strategies, influencer marketing and hard work, my blog has grown into a profitable source of income and perks. Blogging is alive and well! So, if you have the itch, I have organized some insights from my own experience building a blog below; plus, I’ve listed some tips from an experienced influencer and entrepreneur as a resource to help you.
*This is a sponsored post, but the experiences and opinions are my own.*
Search Engine Optimization
This blog did not go off without a hitch. It took time (almost a full year) to be picked up by any search engines. Currently, the three most common search engines that drive traffic to my blog are GOOGLE, BING and YAHOO. A few of my very first blog posts are still being viewed over a year later by utilizing keyword research and SEO strategies. Because of this, I make sure to include related tags, keywords, and use free SEO plugins to help optimize each post for searchability.
The great thing about blogs are that they are fluid. They can always be updated with advertisements and affiliate links to make money if they are getting traffic. I have since updated my older blogs with views to include affiliate ADs. Plus, as my blog traffic increases every month, I receive more opportunities for sponsored posts and product exchanges. Most bloggers that I know (and including myself) use their social media platforms to drive traffic to their blogs as well. Through this strategy, I have doubled my blog traffic over the past year.
Influencer Marketing
Google Analytics show that about 50% of my blog traffic comes from referrals by Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. Creating a brand for my blog on those social channels made it easier to promote my sponsored and affiliate posts and earn revenue. Once I did that I started to have more consistent traffic every day. I also realized that there was even more money to made through influencer marketing. I found that brands are partnering with influencers like me to market their products and services. This tends to reach their target audience more easily and is less expensive than traditional or large scale marketing.
Shanell Grant is an experienced influencer and entrepreneur who started blogging back in 2011. These are some tips I’ve gathered from a recent interview made with Shanell about her journey and success with influencer marketing:
- figure out your niche and implement it across all platforms
- build genuine connections with your audience so they trust your recommendations
- plan out your posting and content creation to avoid overwhelm
- have a backup [business or product] in case influencer market becomes too saturated

Becoming a Brand
As influencer marketing continues to grow, bloggers and content creators have put an emphasis on their work as a business; wanting appropriate compensation to advertise products and services. Likewise, my platforms essentially became a brand with an audience that is able to generate mutual benefits for myself and partnering brands. In order to stand out, I focus that brand around family; I post across all platforms with related content to give other brands multiple sources to market. Read this article, How to Use Influencer Marketing for Ecommerce Store Success, to learn in more detail about how to utilize this type of partnership to grow and profit from your blog or influencer platforms.
Whether you want to grow your blog, build your influence, make extra money or all of the above, these insights and information can help make it work for you. Blogging is a great opportunity for income as long as you put in the effort and utilize resources through social media like I did. After a year of blog growth and becoming an influencer, I’ve learned influencer marketing isn’t going anywhere. It’s time to take advantage of it.
