What You Need (from Dollar Tree):
- 3 metal sheets
- black and orange paint
- scissors
- hot glue
How To DIY:
I’ve had these thin metal cooking sheets for a long time, just waiting for the perfect craft and this.is.it. I recently watched a quick tutorial on how to make a paper pumpkin in this same way, so feel free to choose the media that best fits your style of home décor. I like the metal farmhouse inspired look, so I went with metal, black, and orange for Halloween!
- Start by trimming off the edges of your metal sheets, then fold in half along the short edge.
- Next, cut along the folded edge to make two smaller pieces and fold those in half along the short edge.
- Use a dull pencil to draw one half of a pumpkin, starting with the center of the pumpkin at the folded edge and outward.
- Cut out the shape with the metal sheet still folded. After cutting and unfolding, it should be the shape of a full pumpkin.
- Keep folded in half and repeat steps 1-4 with the rest of your half sheets. You should have a total of 6 pumpkin pieces if you use 3 sheets like me.
- Next, begin gluing the folded pumpkins together, lining up the folded edge and bottom. Be careful because the metal gets hot!
- DO NOT GLUE IN BETWEEN THE FOLDS. You should still be able to open up each individual pumpkin.
- Once, so have a solidly glued stack of folded pumpkins, run some hot glue along the folded edges to make it more secure, then pull back the front and back layer of the stack and glue those together to complete the full circle.
- Lastly, paint your pumpkin. I did a thin layer of black, let it dry, then orange mostly in the center to give is a faded, rustic look! Some of the black came off but it adds to the effect. 😉
Tips:
- Be careful when cutting the metal sheets. They are thin and can cut you.
- Use a towel or oven mitt when pressing down on hot glued stack.
- Paint roughly for a rustic look and use only small amounts of paint.
- Bend down stem corners for a more natural look.
Hope you enjoy this Dollar Tree DIY Rustic Pumpkin Décor for spooky season or fall. Like most of my crafts, it is totally customizable to your style with paint color or even by using patterned cardstock/paper. Have fun with it!
