Hello fellow crafter! If you’re like me, you spend WAY too much time watching DIY crafts on Facebook and you have (at least) a closet full of random crafting supplies just waiting for you to be inspired. Let’s put some of those supplies to use with these 5 DIY Fall pumpkin crafts using the foam pumpkins from Dollar Tree!
Fall DIY crafts don’t have to be hard. Just find a groove and let your creative juices flow! I usually start off with a vague idea of what I want to do; usually after I’ve watched some videos of other crafters doing their thing. I have seen lots of people dress up these little foam pumpkins from Dollar Tree, so I stocked up on them and decided to use them to add to my Fall décor this year. I also used left over and hoarded materials I already had from other projects or that I purchased super cheap!
Three How To’s
For the first pumpkin, I used left over fabric from some DIY Fall garland crafts I made earlier in the season. It is best to cut the fabric in strips when covering the pumpkins due to their spherical shape. I started by painting the pumpkin with Mod Podge over the area of the first strip. Then I placed the fabric over the area, and Mod Podge’d over it. I repeated this process until the pumpkin was fully covered. Next, I painted a leftover, cardboard ribbon tube antique gold and hot glued that sucker to the top of the pumpkin. Added a little bow, some curled black jute, plus some Dollar Tree leaves and BAM! A cute little vintage fabric pumpkin. Obviously, your fabric will be different than mine but will match your décor perfectly!
For the second pumpkin, I used some old Fall ribbon that was gifted to me from a friend’s DIY crafts stash. This was probably the easiest one. I simply cut the ribbon into strips measuring from the top of the pumpkin to the bottom. I started by hot gluing one end of about half of the ribbon strips to the top and dispersed them evenly around the pumpkin. Then, I glued the middle and down to the bottom. This gave me a good idea of how much more ribbon I would need. I covered the entire pumpkin with the metallic floral ribbon. After that, I wrapped two pieces of teal ribbon around the pumpkin and left some length at the top. Using the same teal ribbon, I made a little knot around the length at the top. Then, slapped on a Dollar Tree flower for a little extra shine!
For the third pumpkin, I used some Fall Dollar Tree mesh from the DIY/Crafts section. I cut it into strips (because of what I said before.. about the shape). I started by painting the pumpkin ‘Timeless Ruby’ red. The mesh I used was sheer and I didn’t want the original orange color of the pumpkin as the background color. If you are looking for a good amount of a very specific color, I recommend getting the sample size containers from Home Depot or Lowe’s. It’s fairly inexpensive and you get quite a bit of paint out of them. After that dried, I used the same Mod Podge process as the first pumpkin. Added a sparkly orange bow and some Fall leaves and flower from Dollar Tree. Ya’ll, these take maybe 20 minutes to make. SO easy and customizable!
Two for One How To
The fourth and fifth pumpkins are made essentially the same way but slightly different styles. I painted both a base color. I used Dollar Tree yarn to wrap thrice into the grooves of both pumpkins, hot gluing as needed. The more gothic looking pumpkin used two coats of black chalkboard paint. Ten, I added some left over burlap scraps to the top of the gothic pumpkin in place of leaves. The angelic looking pumpkin used two coats of an off-white paint. Then, I ended up painting over the yarn with an antique gold color and matching bow and leaves. See? DIY Fall pumpkin crafts for all the styles!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE crafting and wish I could do more of it. To be honest, I can’t (but I can) wait until my daughter is old enough to craft with me. Until then, I’ll enjoy sharing my silly side projects with you!
